Alpharetta, GA, May 16, 2007 — Provaré Technology today annouced that it has signed a contract with the Vining-Hartness Company, LLC to provide software testing services for their Response-to-Intervention (RTI) software product line.
Originally developed in the late 1970s as an alternative to then common discrepancy models for early identification of learning disabilities in young children, the RTI method has been increasingly adopted and written about since. Its explicit mention in the 2004 Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) – not to mention the prospect of federal funding – dramatically boosted its appeal.
Vining-Hartness has developed a series of software-based tools for administering the common RTI tests of math and language skills. Their products combine user-friendly test administration software with a back-end database that allows easy and reliable storage and analysis of results, reporting, etc. It is this client-server-based system that Provaré Technology will be testing.
Vining-Hartness outsources much of the development of its software, as do many small startup companies. Development outsourcing is a pragmatic way for a small company with a great idea to make very rapid progress toward an initial release. But outsourcing has its drawbacks as well, not the least of which is the fact that those doing the development often know nothing of a client’s target market or product other than what is stated in the requirements. Vining-Hartness recongnizes these potential pitfalls and has hired Provaré not only to test initial alphas, but to write acceptance tests that can continue to ensure that the delivered software meets their quality and usability standards – regardless of who executes the tests.
“We take this kind of work very seriously,” says Bill Tepper, CEO of Provaré Technology, “especially given the target market and use of this software. We are well aware that the futures of many young children may in some part depend on what we’re doing right now. Vining-Hartness was willing to spend the additional money to hire us as an outside consultant to ensure that this software is usable and reliable. We absolutely cannot let them down.”
As is the case with most of Provaré’s contracts, this one will have no expiration date. This will allow Vining-Hartness to use Provaré services on an as-needed basis with little or no notice into the indefinite future.
