Alpharetta, GA, November 1, 2005 — Provaré Technology announced today an agreement with Cingular Wireless’s Georgia RF Engineering Department to provide a proof of concept for networking and remote management of so-called Remote Electrical Tilt (RET) antennas. Cingular has these antennas deployed at several hundred cell sites across Georgia and is looking for a way to more fully realize their potential.
Mike Stephens, Director of RF Engineering for Georgia explains: “At sites where we have not yet deployed RET antennas, we actually have to climb a cell tower to change or optimize its coverage performance. Where an RET is in place, a cable connects the antennas down to the shelter on the ground where a technician can make the modification without leaving the ground. Now we’re looking for a way to allow our engineers to make such changes from their desks. We’ve asked Provaré Technology as a neutral third party to work with our equipment vendors to evaluate the feasibility and cost effectiveness of this method of operation.”
“The most exciting part of this contract will be that it marries up an improvement for the service provider with an improvement for their customer. It’s a Win-Win situation,” says Bill Tepper, CEO and founder of Provaré Technology. “This project is a little different than our normal vendor qualification in that we aren’t testing out a specific vendor against a specification. In this case, we are helping our client to develop the spec itself – and that’s an exciting place to be!”
If the proof of concept is successful in the small trial set, a larger trial and then full-scale roll-out is expected to follow. Mr. Tepper continued, “Cingular is constantly looking for ways to take best advantage of emerging technologies and we at Provaré Technology intend to help them do that.”
